Another snow

December 11 008
Psalms 145: 9
The Lord is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.
Last year we had a snow but not as much as this year but was a little bit earlier. It started this morning about 6:30 and has not stooped until now it is beginning to dwindle off.
I don't think it has ever been so beautiful. When it first started and had every thing covered I almost wished it would stay that way for a few days so I could just sit and look at it.

Book of lIfe

December 6 008

Philippines 4:3

And I entreat thee also, true yoke-fellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellow-labourers, whose names are in the book of life.

One day while just fooling around with watercolor, I came upon this and for some reason I thought of the book of life. So I inserted the person above.

This picture is a meeting of the Art Association when it was in session. The conversation was lively and all was having a good time. We did a lots of art, like drawing, painting, laughing and eating.

Psalm 91: 11

For he shall give his angles charge over thee in all thy ways.

This little angel is made of handmade paper so I thought it appropriate to add it to my scripture and also to say that He has surely had His charge over me so many times that I would never be able to number.

Psalm 90: 12

So teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

Today is my birthday and the Lord has been so good to me over the last ninety years. and I thank Him so much.

November 7 008
Proverbs 27: 25
The hay appeareth, and the tender grass sheweth itself, and herbs of the mountains are gathered.
This is a collage done in handmade paper and painted with acrylic paint.
It has much more vibrant colors than shows here, it has been sold.

climbing the tree again.

October 24 008

Mark 9: 42

And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.

These boys are experimenting every thing now and are fascinated with the trees. Next they will be wanting to fly and drive the car in fact one of them is wanting to do that already. If he could just get those keys.

Fall garden

October 15 008

Matthew 6: 11

Give us this day our daily bread.

This is my fall garden full of cabbage, collard and turnips.

I went for Eco EKG this morning and am back home with the heart monitor on again. Will wear for 48 hours.

I wont be in the garden for a few more weeks but as soon as I get this monitor off will have some turnips for lunch one day, maybe will cook a hoecake and Dannelle will bring the O Baby down and we will teach him how to eat them. We have a beatuiful day here today and hope every one will vote right this time.

Fall colors

October 14 008

Isaiah 32: 8

But the liberal deviseth liberal things; and by liberal things shall he stand.

You hear a lots about the liberal these days and while reading my Bible, I ran across this scripture this morning. It says a lots to me since I hear it so much and I guess we get use to hearing it and just pass it up most of the time. But I am afraid this is true to nature.

I would say be careful how you vote.

I suppose I am painting two pictures here but just had to say that there is beauty even in the compost pile. This is a beautiful sight to look at, it is so vibrate in the purple color much more than in this photo. I just had to snap this even though it doesn't go along with the scripture.

Curiosity

October 11 oo8
Mark 9:37
Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me.
We have had a joyful week end, just seeing the curiosity of these two little ones. I guess you could say all boys and this is not the half of it .

Trumpet

October 2 008

Isaiah 12: 2

Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the Lord JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.

This trumpet plant is now blooming and is so beautiful. I think I have had this on before but I thought since it is blooming would do it again. This one that I did with watercolor and have also done one with colored pencil. It is so easy to root, you can take a limb from it and put it in water and it will root. I have one now and wont to put it out for the winter so it can take hold for next year.

As some of you may already know, I spent the week end in the hospital for a irregular heart beat and with the help of the good Lord, doctors, nephews, friends and children am well and at home but am not up to digging a hole for the rooted plant or putting the fertilize in the garden for the cabbage and collard plants . Some will come along though.

Spring Plant

October 1 008
Ecclesiastees 5: 20
For he shall not much remember the days of life: because Goe answereth him in the joy of his heart.
This is a squash plant with much dew on it. it is a beauty to see in the early morning. It is painted with watercolor.

Old Barn

September 11 008

Micah 7:7

There fore I will look unto the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me.

This is a little snow we had a couple of years years ago, it reminds me of the time past, so does the barn that my husband built. It makes it all look lonesome with him gone.
Now most of all the flowers are gone and things are green but the blooms are gone and we will wait for the fall flowers. I am sure there will be lots of fall color in a little while.
I have painted this barn and made a collage of it with hand made paper.
It has been made useful many times in time past and now stands a lone.

Stretching muscels

September 6 008
Philippians 6:10
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might .

Well I think I would do this every day, should I find a good tree to climb. There is nothing I wouldn't climb though.
I am just two and am trying to stretch my muscles and be strong. Some day I might be a football player, since I sure do like playing ball.

August 25 008

1 Corinthians 13: 11

When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

This pair is swinger and a climber, just don't look the other way or I be into it but we love each other and have a good time. I will keep you moving and if you wont to be eentertained, keep me around.

August 22 008

Genesis 3: 18
Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shall eat the herbs of the field.

You probable wont believe ths is an okra tree, well I have never heard it called a tree but it is over 8 feet tall and has okra on it. My daughter working in her small garden has succeded in growing this okra plant, which I don't think she intended. Her grandmother, Mamaw Johnson, was the best at growing large tomatoes, onions and such, so I think she took after her. I just wish her Mamaw could see this. She gathers okra from it every day but I am hopeing she will leave some on it and let dry so she can paint them in differant colors and then she will have a home grown Christmas tree.

Muscadine

August 16 008

Exodus 23 :16

And the feast of harvest, the first fruits of thy labours, which thou hast sown in the field: and the feast of ingathering, which is in the end of the year , when thou has gathered in thy labours out of the field.

This is a part of the muscadine vine that is in my back yard. I am enjoying the fruits by cooking them down and use the juices to go in the pears that I cook. Makes a Delicious desert, you can put cream cheese, peanut butter or cheese or on top and run through the toaster.

Fall Fruit

August 8 008

Genesis 2: 16
And the Lord God commanded the man, saying , of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

This fruit is truly good for the health, fiber and lots of juice. It is a fall fruit and comes in handy when every thing else is leaving. Some people does not care for it but I have always like to eat them raw and there is many ways you can fix them to enjoy. Pears does not have a lots of flavor or sugar content but like a lots of food flavor and sugar or sweetener can be added to make them enjoyable.
You can add the sweetener of your choice and use other fruit juices to enhance the flavor, I especially like to put lemon, grape juice or musadine and some times get the cooking wine. This gives it additional flavor and then just the juice of the pears makes a good drink. Try and enjoy the good for you fall fruit.

My little buddies

July 30 008
Luke 18:16
But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the Kingdom of God.
Have we had fun, well its is more than eating. I wouldn't trade this water gun for any of this stuff I am supposed to be eating.

St. Luke 18: 17

Verly I say unto you,Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therin.

Walking

June 17: 008

Matthew 21: 6

And the disciples went, and did as Jesus commanded them.

When we think of it the disciples traveled by foot, they went out with out any purse or extras of any kind of protection. Jesus was their proctor.

I remember walking every where we went and never thought much about it and I wonder if we could do that now. The Lord was always there and protected us where ever we went. I pray these little feet will be guided buy His hand all through life.

Mixed violets

July 13 008

Psalm 90: 17
And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us: y ea, the work of our hands establish thou it.

I have found these violets to be the most joy of any plant you can have, they will just keep blooming and blooming, big clusters of them and now you can see what else can be done with them. This white with the blue edge around it is a cross between the light blue and the dark blue. My first. Just put your plants in a two part pot, especially made for African violets, put a job stick in the bottom with some water and put two plants of two different colors and see what you
can do. You will only have to keep that water and job stick in the bottom of that pot and water about once a month but will go longer than that
if you can not get to it. Happy flowering.

From the garden

July 7-8 ---008
Genesis 1:12
And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
This is some of the vegetables from my garden, the squash,( yellow and zucchini), tomatoes, egg plants and the jalapeno peppers has really been good this time. I have cooked every kind of squash cassserole you can think of, just livenly it up with some of the jalapeno peppers, onions, garlic and celery really does make a good dish. I think I like it best with some pork sausage or ground chuck stired in with it. I can never get tired of the blueberry pies. All of this I have to limit so the sugar and salt really does make a differance, I can use splenda in the pie but just can't hardly eat those tomatoes with out that salt.
I hope every one else is blessed with some of this or all, just doesn't seem like summer with out those fresh vegetables. My garden is small and the different kinds are limited but I do have another small garden with some cucumber, onion, and garlic, then the herbs stashed around in pots, that to is good in these casseroles. Dannelle has been a great help this year bringing plants, fertilize and mulch, even helping me gather it.

berry Pickers

July 4Th 008
Numbers 11:5
We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons and the leeks and the onions , and the garlic.
This is some of the berry pickers we had a while back, and was a lots of good conversation going on and a lots of berries picked.
Reaching back for how it use to be reminds me of how it was when I was a child and remembering things my mother cooked. I don't know if she cooked the Shoofly Pie or not but I am sure she cooked some sort of pie that she put molasses in it. If she did put any kind of sugar it was the sugar she scraped from the inside of the molasses can. Now that was a long time ago but the molasses cookies were so good with that rock sugar she got from the can. I can almost smell it now. My niece that was picking the berries sent me this Pie recipe so you can see what you think it will taste like
Aunt Emmy;s Shoo fly Pie 3/4 tsp backing soda
1/4 cup shortening 1/4 tsp salt
1 1/2 cup flour 3/4 cup molasses
1 cup brown sugar 3/4 cup hot water
Work the above ingredients together
1/8 tsp nutmeg
pinch of cinnamon, ginger and cloves, mix well together and add hot water. Pour into an unbaked pie shell, combine the crumbs and liquid in alternate layers, with crumbs on bottom and top. Bake 15 Mins. at 450 then 20 Mins. at 350
I am reaching a way back now and getting a recipe .

July 3 0008

St Matthew 18: 14

Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.

Well folks I have me two little basket ball players. I think they wont to drive cars just as well, Just let me have those keys and I will show you. This is the time of my life with my uncle and paw paw Bob showing us how to ring that ball.

Blueberries

July 3 0008

Numbers 11: 8

And the people went about, and gathered it, and ground it in mills, or beat it in a mortar, and baked it in pans, and made cakes of it:and the taste of it was of as the taste of fresh oil.

And the "Melt in your mouth" cake is one of the best you can make of the blueberries. There was enough of the berries to go around this time. Even though was not as many this time as there was last year. We had plenty of rain this year and they were delightfully big and nice. I still have lots of them on the trees and picked a gallon just yesterday. Now I have some to give away to someone that needs them.
We had lots of pickers and even the two year old goes out and picks and doesn't even look back when you tell him he might get in a bug bed. Never mind that I'm going to pick berries and I will try eating a green one if I please. Even climb the tree.

Blueberries

June 28 :008
ACTS:14:17
Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.

Even though we had a freeze late in the Spring that got my tomatoes, we did have an abondance of blueberries.
It has been a good year for rain.
I have had lots of folks to come and pick. The delight was the day my two nieces came from Birmingham Ala and Branden Miss. We even had a birthday party for lunch for the brother from Collins, Miss. was such a good time with visting and picking. My nephew and his wife came that lives across the hollow and brought us lots of tometoes we had them for lunch, we did a lots more picking and did some Picture taking. I would enclude that but have lost the icon that gives me a chance to add on.

Lilies

May 31 oo8

1Kings 7: 22
And upon the top of t he pillars was lily work:
so was the work of the pillars finished.

This says to me that the lilies been arouns a long time, wouldn't you like to see just how the lilies look back in Solomon's days.
I have lots of beautiful lilies, deep red, two or more kind of yellow, lots of peach, and even a black with a orange center.
I believe they last about the longest of any flower that I have, the black ones will be blooming quiet a while since they bloom a little later than the others ones does. I started out to get all the colors I could find but that requirs a lots of digging and a lots richer dirt than I have. They really are pretty now.

GARDEn

May 21 2008

Jeremiah 29: 5
Build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them;

This is my garden for this year but I will have to say I did not do any of it, my neighbor did this for me and my daughter transported the mulish from Wal marts to me. Then she has set out some of the plants for me. The little grandson has done his part in digging up some of the plants. O what a boy. This morning I gathered some turnips and mustard to cook and they are so tender and fine. I also found one egg plant ready to pick. Now if I can get some one to stick the rest of the tomato's and tie them up I will be setting pretty for a while.

Wasp nest

May 19 008

Joshua 24: 12
And I sent the hornet before you, which drave them out from before you , even the two kings of the Amortise; but not with thy sword, nor with thy bow.

This little lady has been working just outside my dinning room window and I have watched her from the very start. They are also in my tool shed and give me a nip on the head to let me know it is their territory.
It was interesting to know that in the old testament the hornet comes from the Greek translation and may refer to the wasp and yellow jacket.
God used them to drive out the enemy before hand, how great it is to know that He has this way of taking care of us when we don't know what it is all about.
They construct their nest from dead wood and they make it paper thin, I have a piece of art work made from a hornet nest and think I have already posted it before. If any body would like to see it I will post it again. I really enjoyed working with it. Organizing it and painting it was a real Challenge but fun.

watercolor

May 8 008

Humble your self in the sight of the Lord and he shall lift you up. James 4:10

This is a little watercolor I have done lately. It was a fun thing to do even if I do paint in spurts, it is the first in quiet a while, in about two years I think. I don't know why it has been so long. Maybe I will do some more now that I have started back. Garden has been my thing for the last three years and i have really enjoyed the fresh vegetables. I am cutting back on that since I have fallen so many times. I still do have a small garden, I just can't seem to leave those tomato's and squash alone but that wont be much to take care of and as my neighbor says, " a good old tomato sandwich just can't be beat, and she second that saying "two of them".
I got out the other morning and put some calcium around them and pull t he dirt up around them.

Old home place

April 20 2008
Matthew 19: 19 Honour thy father and thy mother:
and , Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
This is some handmade paper that I made and embossed with a tile plate that I also made. I used a press to get the embossing. Quiet an experience
but I loved doing this. It was done from a picture of the home place where my husband was raised after some additions were added. As you might know that this kind of paper is really hard to paint so I used a number of paints, like colored pencils, watercolor, crayons and ink. If you would like to know more about this kind of work you can contact me at my email address. louisespell@msn.com .

Colossians 3-20

April 15 -008

Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.

Chasing the balloon, is more fun than any thing I have done lately other than ride Thomas the train in Clear Ala. These two year olds has had their fun this week. They haven't been together in quiet a while but have made up for lost time. One is two now and the other will be two prety soon. Now that it is Spring we can get out and get into every thing like chaseing buterflys to bumble bees. They even like to dig in the dirt and go to the park. What energy.

I have not been able to post in quiet a while since the computer has been disabled.

Fall

Psalms 86; 7
In the day of my troubleI will call upon thee; for thou wilt answer.

This makes the umpth time i have fallen so I will say not again Please.
I don't know why I am falling so much but I think my legs are not just picking my feet up.
But i still have faith and hope it wont happen again.
February the 24th I fell and hurt my hands and did something to my right arm that has been soooo painful.
Maybe I am just getting too old to keep up with the time.

I think we are going to have some more bad weather before we can say the last frost is coming. Maybe till the middle of April. That seems like a long time and I will be so glad for I am getting tired of the light bill to keep the house warn.

I spent the last week in Alabama and had a good time letting Marlon and Bob wait on me. I read the book by Mike Huckbee and really enjoyed it. That did pass away a lots of time. If you wont an interesting book, you should get it. I was so glad Bob had it and I got to read it. It came in real handy.

My niece from Birmingham came and brought us our lunch from Studio B. and then we vistided it on Sunday.
That is Sean's (my grand son-in-law) new resturant that he has just opened in Birmingham.
On Sunday we ate at another resturant after Church, since Studio B does not open on Sunday.

Mississippi

February 17 2008

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

This is a beautiful Sunday afternoon in the lower part of Mississippi after rain and some rough wind earlie morning. Things are really coming out and the daffodils are blooming every where.

Soon we will see the land being plowed and plants being put out for this rain and sun grow. I can't wait for all the plants to come in and I will start them growing in my beds.

Spring time floweres

February 10 2008

Solomans's song 2-11

For, lo, the winter is past the rain is over and gone; The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of turtle is heard in our land;

I can't believe that January is already gone and I see the jonquils are blooming on the side of the road. Some of the trees are showing signs of budding. It is the time of gardening and then will soon be hot. We are experienceing some of it now in this part of the countr, I never liked a coat any way. When I see the little blue daisies blooming on the ground I can say now is Spring and I love it.

Fruit

Psalm 22: 26
The meek shall eat and be satisfied: they shall praise the Lord that seek him: yur heart shall live for ever.

For those of you that have to watch the sweets and for those that needs a refreshing cool snak of sweets in this hot weather, I have found this to be a nice cool bite to satisfie the appitite. I keep this in the refrigator all the time and is a good substitute for that sweets you are longing for.
1 sugar free package of sugar free strawberry or rasberry jello.
1 delisious apple chopped fine. So simple and very good.

Snow

Febuary 1 2008
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways; then will i hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
To wash away the sins are like this snow, it is gone and another one will come but this one is gone for ever.

Lively eating

January 24 -2008

Job 6: 6
Can that which is unsavoury be eaten without salt? or is there any taste in the white of an egg?

In this dreary weather it causes me to think of something tasteful to cook and keep something on the stove that will keep the kitchen warm, it turns me back to the herbs and say that will do it. You can see the Rosemary bush is still standing under the snow, some people like it cooked with chicken but I am not so much for that so I will get out the herbal vinegar, that has Rosemary in it and marinate some kind of meat. Cook some kind of greens and a hoe cake of cornbread. The herbal goes good with the greens to, for me I just like a ham hock cooked in the greens. I found this little scripture in Job which I read a lots and thought it was unique.

Snow

January 23: 2008
Job 27: 6-9
For he saith to the snow, Be thou on the earth: likewise to the rain, and to the great rain of his strength.
9; Out of the south comet the whirlwind: and cold out of the north.
Well this is our snow year, we only get snow down here in the south once in about every fifteenth year apart. Saturday morning I looked out and saw every thing white then in a few minutes I saw it coming down. Oh so beautiful.
I am thankful for the snow, it helps to pulverize the soil and kills off some of the pest that would take over my garden. I think it enriches the soil.

Eggs and Herbal Vinegar

January 7- 2008

Job 6: 6
Can that which is unsavoury be eaten without salt? or is there any taste in the white of an egg?

For those of you that like the herbal vinegar and may like the eggs I wrote about in the previous message, there is other things that can be added for more taste. I have added some purple onion, a couple of pieces of celery, some salt, fresh ground black pepper and a bit of hot pepper flakes. I like my food with a bit of sting, so you can do that to your own taste. Op! by now I need to add some more eggs, three of them are already !!!!!!

Eggs and Herbal Vinegar

To Day January 5 2008

Psalms 52: 8
But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever.

I have always liked boil eggs, especially on my salad so I decided to come up with a more flavor able one for it. I used a fourth of a cup of the mustard sauce that is made with the herbal vinegar and about three tablespoons of olive oil, I added some more pure vinegar in case the herbal vinegar is a little strong. The mustard sauce already had olive oil in it so I didn't need much more. I will leave the eggs in this for several days and give it time to take up the flavor. You can always add more of what ever taste you like the best.
Hope you will like this.

Joys of Christmas

January 1 2008
Isaiah 55: 6
Seek ye the Lord while He may be found, call ye up on Him while he is near.
O the joy of Christmas.
I wont to wish everybody a Happy New Year and love and best wishes.
